6 NORWEGIAN ARTISTS TO LISTEN TO

Each year on the 17th of May, Noway has an official public holiday called “Constitution Day”. This is a day where Norwegians celebrate the signing of Norway’s constitution in 1814 which declared the country as independent. On this holiday everyone dresses up in traditional clothing and there are many parades and celebrations.
My sister lives in Norway and has told me about the culture there and the music as well. Since today is May 17th, I have decided to share 6 artists from Norway that I absolutely love listening to and hopefully you will love just too.
Peder Elias is a pop singer, songwriter and producer signed to Sony Music Entertainment in Norway. He made his debut in August 2018 with the single “Simple”. In February 2019, he released the single “Good For You” – which is his most popular song with almost 13 million streams. Peder continued to release singles throughout 2019 to 2021 and finally released his first album Love & Loneliness on April 29th, 2022. This is an 11 song album and includes some of his hits such as; “Good For You”, “Loving You Girl (feat. Hkeem)” – which has over 8 million streams and “Bonfire” – which has a little over 5 million streams.
Peder is actually really popular in South Korea as his single “Bonfire” remained in the South Korean charts for over 2 years. In 2022, he was awarded the Genie Music Award for “Best Pop” of the year. Additionally, Love & Loneliness went 6x platinum in South Korea and Taiwan.
On May 27th, 2022, Peder collaborated with South Korean singer SURAN for the song “Darling”.
In February of this year, Peder did his biggest collaboration yet and it was with BSS – which is a trio group consisting of DK, Hoshi, and Seungkwan from the South Korean pop group SEVENTEEN. The song is titled “7PM” and it’s the third song on BSS’ first single album SECOND WIND. Additionally, Peder just released a single on March 24th titled “Paper Plane”.

Gundelach is an alternative/indie singer who debuted in March 2015 with the song “Alone in the Night” – which is one of his most popular songs with just a little over 2.2 million streams. His second most popular song with 2.8 million streams is “Spiders” which was released on December 11th, 2015.
In May 2016, Gundelach released his debut EP Gundelach which consists of 6 songs and includes his hit single “Spiders”. He continued to release singles throughout the years and released his first album Baltus on March 16th, 2018. Baltus is a 9 song album and includes his most popular song “Duck Hunting” – which has over 10 million streams. “Duck Hunting” is my favourite song which my sister recommended to me earlier this year after she saw Gundelach in concert in Oslo.
In March 2020, Gundelach released his second album My Frail Body. Lastly, his latest release is his third album ShapeShifter. This was released on May 20th, 2022. Hopefully in 2023, we can expect to hear some more music.

thea wang is dream-pop singer and songwriter originally from Bergen, Norway and currently based in Copenhagen, Demark. She debuted on February 4th, 2022 with the single “Tell Me About It”. This song is her most popular song with almost 1 million streams and is a song about growing up.
Throughout 2022, thea released quite a few singles. Her latest release from September 9th, 2022 is her first album While He Is Still Asleep. This album consists of 11 songs.
So far for 2023, thea has not released any new music, but hopefully we can expect to hear some more music in the near future.

Darling West is a Cosmic pop/Indie Folk band consisting of Mari Kreken, Tor Egil Kreken, Christer Slaaen and Thomas Gallatin. They debuted on May 9th, 2014 with their debut album Winter Passing. In May 2016, they released the single “The Sweetest Tune” which is their second most popular song with ver 2.2 million streams. This song was the pre-release track for their second album Vinyl and a Heartache which was released on August 26th, 2016.
They continued to release a few singles throughout 2017 and in February 2018, they released their third album While I Was Asleep which includes their most popular song “Rolling On” – which has over 4 million streams. My favourite song “Wild Dreams” was released on September 9th, 2022. This song only has around 67K, but it has such peaceful vibes.
On March 24th of this year, Darling West released the album Cosmos. This album is their latest release and consists of 10 songs. Additionally, Darling West is currently touring around Norway.

Marie, commonly known by her artist name girl in red is an indie-pop singer, songwriter and producer. She currently has over 12.8 million monthly listeners. She debuted on March 2nd, 2018 with the single “i wanna be your girlfriend” – which has over 380 million streams, making it her second most popular song. This song was also included on her debut EP chapter 1 which was released on September 14th, 2018.
Followed by the release of her debut EP, she released a single album titled we fell in love in october / October Passed Me By. The first song on this single album “we fell in love in october” is her hit song with over 681 million streams. This is my favourite song of hers and the one that got me listening to her music.
She continued to release singles throughout 2019 and in September 2019 she released her second EP chapter 2. On April 30th, 2021, she released her first album if i could make it go quiet which includes another one of my favourite songs titled “midnight love”.
So far for 2023, she has not released any new music, but she is currently touring with Taylor Swift as the opening act so check out the tour dates here.

DØSSI is an indie-pop producer, singer and songwriter from Bergen, Norway. She released her first single to digital streaming platforms on November 30th, 2018 with the single “Girl”. On June 11th, 2021, she released her debut EP bluebirds.
In 2022, she released two more EP’s lovebirds pt.1: love and lovebirds pt.2: let go. Her single “tough love” is included on her EP lovebirds pt.2: let go and this is my favourite song of hers. She ended the year off with the release of her first full length album love, let go and love again on December 2nd, 2022. This 16 song album is a combination of both her EP’s with a few more songs. It also includes her song “time will heal her” – which is her most popular song with a little over 230K streams.
