4 FEMALE R&B ARTISTS YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO

R&B is one of my favourite genres and I often spend a lot of time searching for new R&B songs and artists. There are many talented and underrated female artists in this genre which is why in this article, I will share 4 female R&B artists that I think you need to listen to. As always, there will be a Spotify playlist at the end of the article.
Let’s get started…
Kennedy Rd. is a 90’s type R&B singer from Toronto, Canada. She released her debut single “Make It Last” on February 12, 2017. Followed by that release, she released her single “Day and Nite” in July. This song is her most popular song of a little over 1 million streams. Kennedy’s song “Falling” which was released in January 2019, is her second most popular song of over 900K streams. This single was the pre-release single for her debut EP Good Luv which released in February.
She released a few singles throughout the rest of 2019 and 2020 and released her second EP Still Luv in December 2020. Followed by those EPs, in 2021 she started a trilogy EP and released the first one Waves Of Love – Vol 1 on November 19, 2021 followed by Waves Of Love Vol 2 in June 2022. Finishing off the trilogy, she released Waves Of Love 3 on April 6th of this year. My personal favourite song on this new EP is “Do It”.

Tamae is a singer-songwriter from Detroit, United States. She released her first single “Minds” in September 2018. She works with producer Lyric Le’son for all of her songs and by working together, they aim to break barriers between Asian and Black cultures. Her most popular song of over 1 million streams is “DRIVE THRU” – which also happens to be the song I discovered her by. This song was released in December 2021. Tamae was quite active in 2022, posting a lot of singles. Her most recent single “Blurry” was released on February 18th.

Kenya Vaun is a singer-songwriter from Philadelphia. She released her first single “Movie Night” on April 20th, 2018 followed by “Certified” in June 2019 – which is a collaboration with YSN Leaf. On April 28th, 2022, she released the single “Bout’ Me”. Her most recent single “Overrated” was released on February 24th of this year. This is the song that made me discover her as I found it featured on Spotify’s curated playlist R&B Weekly.

Anushka Bibi is a Canadian singer I discovered recently as her song “Ruin My Life” is featured in the Spotify curated playlist “Mood Ring” – which is a playlist dedicated to R&B artists in Canada. She released her first single “Your Past Lovers” in November 2021. In 2022 she released the song “Preaching” in April 2022 followed by “Own Devices” in August 2022. Her latest single “Ruin My Life” was released on January 6th of this year and is by far my favourite of hers.
