INDONESIAN ARTISTS TO LISTEN TO

We are big fans of HNATA and recently we were going through his “Fans also like this” section on his Spotify page. We ended up spending an hour discovering all these amazing Indonesian artists and so we had to create this blog highlighting a few of the ones we discovered. There will definitely be more parts, but for now in this article we share 6 artists that we are currently loving! All the artists mentioned in this blog fall under a different genre and have their own unique sounds and musical styles. We hope you love them as much as we love them!
HNATA (pronounced Hinata) is a producer, singer and songwriter from Jakarta, Indonesia. His music is a blend of Pop, Indie-Alternative and R&B. He currently has around 185K monthly listeners on Spotify. He debuted on January 4th, 2019 with the single “Slowtime”. His next single “24” was released in April 2020 followed by “LOST” with Noni in June and “Sanity” in October with Rino.
On March 19th, 2021, HNATA collaborated with Justin Adijanto for the single “Cappuccino (Can I Help You?)”. This was a pre-release track for his debut EP Lauren which came out on September 17th, 2021. In 2022, HNATA released four singles; “W.G.I.A” in February, “Anywhere But Here” with Lydia Ganada in June, “TALK!” with A.G.O in July and “Never Needed U Anyway” with Aleebi and Danny Hong.
In February 2023, HNATA released the single “glitter” which is the first song we heard of his and is one of our favourites. In March, HNATA was featured on Koven Wei’s song “BEFORE” which was later featured on Koven Wei’s debut EP Bambino. On April 28th, 2023, HNATA collaborated with Lydia Ganada again for the single “cherry red”. This is his most popular song with over 2.1 million streams on Spotify alone. As well, this song peaked at number 10 on Spotify’s curated playlist “Viral 50 Philippines”. HNATA’s next single was in May titled “FLOWERS IN MAY” which was in collaboration with hanuel and keris. This is his second most popular song with over 1.4 million streams and was number 3 on Spotify’s curated playlist “Viral 50 Thailand.
Followed by those releases, HNATA released “mediocre” and “BABYBLUE” with hanuel in July. In September, HNATA performed at Music Matters Live in Singapore and released the single “The Worst Part” with CLAUDIA. His last release of the year was in October for “stupid and quiet” with Charlie.
Alongside being a soloist, HNATA is also a part of the indie group PRYVT with hanuel. Their debut song “tell me, will we survive?” has garnered over 1.5 million streams on Spotify alone.

Sindy Amani is a Lo-Fi/Pop singer and songwriter from Malang, Indonesia. She currently has 28.6K monthly listeners on Spotify. She debuted on June 17th, 2020 with “For Anyone Who Are Really Sad (Acoustic Version)”. Following her debut, she released “Is It Wrong To Loving You?” on July 24th, 2020. This is her most popular song with over 5.4 million streams on Spotify. As well, this song was a pre-release track for her debut EP Never Good Enough which released a year later in April 2021.
On January 28th, 2022 she released the single “i don’t want to let you go” followed by a collaboration with Azhr for the single “Would It Hurt” in July 2022.
In July 2023, she released the single “losing”. Her last single of 2023 and her most recent single was “Kembali” which came out on December 8th.

Vito Dave Gusman, also known by his artist name vito. is a singer and songwriter from Jakarta, Indonesia. He currently has around 50K monthly listeners on Spotify. He debuted on October 16th, 2019 with the single “Don’t Cha Mind…” which was in collaboration with Jess Xaviera. Followed by his debut, he released “Jumpstart!”, “Late (Again)” and “Mengapa?” on November 22nd, 2019. All three of these songs were pre-release tracks for his debut EP Newgame+ which came out on November 29th, 2019. “Late (Again)” is vito.’s most popular song with over 1.2 million streams on Spotify.
In 2020, he released three singles; “Why This Way?” in February, “Be Fine.” in March and “Lepaskan” in May with Nabil Swara and Dhea Seto. On July 30th, 2021, he collaborated with GRACE. for the song “Who Knows…”.
He started off 2022 with the release of “oOoyea” on April 15th. Followed by that song, he released the following singles; “Side Of Me” in August, “Sleepless Nights” with Nabil Swara in September and “Sakit Hati” in October. All four of these songs were included in his second EP Love This Side of Me which came out on December 16th, 2022.
Unfortunately this EP is his latest release as he didn’t release anything in 2023. We are not sure when he will next release, but hopefully he will in the near future.

Emily Sie is a bedroom-pop singer, songwriter and producer born and raised in Indonesia. She started her musical journey by releasing covers on her YouTube channel and garnered over 200K subscribers. On Spotify, she currently has 24K listeners. She debuted on September 24th, 2019 with the single “Falling for You”. Following her debut, she released her second single “Cigarettes of Ours” and “Class of 2020 (Home Studio Version)” in April 2020. On July 17th, 2021, she released the single “Call Me” which is the first song we listened to from her discography. This is also her most popular song with over 2.6 million streams on Spotify.
On June 4th, 2021, she released her debut EP Voicenotes, Vol. 1. In 2021, she released the single “Lovelorn” in September and in 2022 she didn’t release any music. She came back from her hiatus on May 19th, 2023 with the single “autopilot”. This single was a pre-release track for her second EP all the things i couldn’t say which came out on June 16th, 2023.

Initial Ways is an Alternative Pop/Rock band from Bundung. They formed in 2022 and the band consists of 4 members; Dynan Fauzan (Vocalist/Rhythm Guitarist), Hafidzan Naufan (Vocalist/Lead Guitarist), Rayhan Rimosan (Bassist) and Arvanzach (Drummer). They currently have just over 2.7K monthly listeners on Spotify.
They debuted on May 3rd, 2023 with the single “Pilot”. Their second single “Whatever You Do” came out in June. This is their most popular song with 52K streams on Spotify. Their last release of 2023 was in September for the song “Favorite Photograph”. This is also their latest release, but hopefully we will get a new song soon.

Amira Karin is a singer and songwriter from Jakarta who creates ballad-like pop songs. She currently has around 9K monthly listeners on Spotify. She made her debut on November 5th, 2021 with the single “Pelangi Nusantara” which was a collaboration with Khalishash Isyana and Budapest Scoring Orchestra. Her official solo debut was on January 28th, 2022 with the single “Berlalu”. This is the song that we first heard of hers and we absolutely love it. Following that , she released “Cemas” and “Hitung Sisa” in July 2022. Both these singles were pre-release tracks for her debut EP Things I wanted to say, but which came out on July 29th, 2022. In November 2022, she released “For All” and ended the year off with the single “Vorfreude (Live)” with Paul Partohap and DEABDIL.
Her first release of 2023 was on January 27th for “Titik Koma”. This was a single on her debut album Things she wanted to say, but which came out on May 19th, 2023. This is her latest release, but hopefully we can hear some more songs in 2024.
