BTS’ JIMIN RELEASES FIRST SOLO ALBUM “FACE” | COMEBACK CORNER

Last year, BTS put a pause on their group activities so they can complete their mandatory military services. They also took this time to work on solo music before they enlist. Jimin of BTS is the 4th member to release a solo album so far.
Jimin’s first solo album FACE released at midnight EST along with the music video for his title track “Like Crazy”. In just 19 hours, the music video already has over 10 million streams.
In this article, I will be reviewing and breaking down all of the songs on the album FACE. There are 6 songs but the 6th one is an English version of “Like Crazy”, so I will only be reviewing the 5. Let’s get started.
“Face-off” is the first song on the album and it’s definitely my third favourite song on the album. It is such an R&B song and suits Jimin’s overall musical style. The intro with the circus music had me questioning how the song was going to sound but, I think it worked really well.
I can see this song being a favourite for not only Army/K-pop fans but, anyone who comes across it. I especially love how the drum beat comes in for the verse and chorus and stops during pre-chorus.

“Interlude : Dive” is a piano instrumental layered in with audio from Jimin introducing himself at a BTS concert. This song is layered with a bunch of different sounds and gives the feeling of nostalgia. As well, the song actually sounds similar to j-hope’s song “Blue Side” due to the chord progression, which I love.

“Like Crazy” is the title track of this album. I don’t know how to describe the genre of this song, but it’s kind of R&B infused with pop and some other genres. The music video is beautiful from the cinematography to the colour grading to Jimin’s overall aesthetic and vibe. To be completely honest, this is my least favourite song on the album, but I feel like it has to grow on me.
The song is inspired by Jimin’s favourite movie Like Crazy which was released in 2011. The last track on this album is an English version of this song.

“Alone” is my favourite song on the album besides “Set Me Free Pt. 2”. This song is 100% my vibes as it has the R&B infused with pop style. I absolutely love the piano intro with Jimin’s dark but light vocals, followed by the guitar picking style. The build up of this song with the different instruments hits. This song is very vibey even though it’s on the slower side. Also love the harmonies during the “day and night” lyrics.

“Set Me Free Pt. 2” is the pre-release track on Jimin’s album. He released this song on March 17th along with the music video. In just 7 days, the music video has over 41 million streams. This is my favourite song on the album because of the production and the lyrics. I think Jimin really showed a different side of him with this song from the lyrics to the visuals of the music video.

Overall, this album is amazing and literally is Jimin in an album. He put a lot of hard work into this album and each song is so beautifully crafted to tell his story as Park Jimin. Hope you enjoy the album just as much as I did.
