Today at midnight, Filipino-American, Los Angeles based artist and producer, James Layno, also known as LaynoProd released his new single “dragon mode” featuring Okello and co-produced by P.. He describes his sound as “soulful autotune melodic rap with hard hitting 808-driven beats and cinematic heartwarming melodies.” His music is a blend of Chill Westcoast Hip-Hop and Eastcoast Sample-Heavy Hip-Hop, Southern Trap, Pluggnb music ‘70s and ‘80s R&B and rock music. Additionally, he draws inspiration from European House and UK Garage music, Dancehall and K-Pop. He says his music is a “bit of everything”.
On June 27th of this year, LaynoProd released the single “ukiyo” which was the first pre-release track for his upcoming 4th album JAPAN PART THREE. Today, he released “dragon mode” which is the second single for his 4th album. When asked about the meaning of the song and inspiration behind it, Layno says, “dragon mode is a cinematic, gritty, motivational song about the bloodthirsty determination, raw power, and unwavering self belief one has to endure pain, overcome weakness, and succeed in life. The lyrics and visual artwork draw inspiration from Bruce Lee’s movie Game of Death (1978), Enter the Dragon (1973), Fist of Fury (1972) and Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003). The song has wavy, autotuned raps over a Nujabes-inspired trap beat”.
It is also LaynoProd’s 26th birthday today, making the release of “dragon mode” even more special, so, please go and wish him a very Happy Birthday and make sure to stream his song here.
