“Sound Scope” is a series dedicated to exploring the rising stars shaping the global music landscape. In this installment, we turn our attention to an artist who has already amassed a significant following and achieved international success. Despite their prominence, we believe their artistic vision resonates deeply with our own.

The music industry exerts significant influence, with its prominent figures holding substantial platforms. As artists, journalists, and industry professionals, it’s essential for us to utilize these platforms to amplify important voices and shed light on pressing global issues.

Behind The Beat, an expanding music organization and media outlet, expresses inclusivity as a core value. Consequently, we couldn’t stay silent any longer. We’ve been considering the most effective ways to tackle relevant topics in our content, and the work of this artist presents a seamless transition.

On May 10th, 2024, Macklemore, the American rapper, broke his musical hiatus with the release of “HIND’S HALL,” an anthem in support of Palestine. Through this track, Macklemore stands in solidarity with the students protesting on college campuses across the US, in response to the ongoing conflict and genocide in Gaza. The title, “HIND’S HALL,” pays homage to a pivotal moment at Columbia University, where students renamed Hamilton Hall to honour Hind Rajab, a six-year-old Palestinian girl tragically killed by Israeli forces in January 2024.

In just under three weeks, Macklemore has experienced a career resurgence, with “HIND’S HALL” charting across multiple Billboard charts. However, it’s crucial to note that Macklemore’s intention wasn’t to chase chart success; rather, it was a genuine call to stand with those protesting for Palestine.

Macklemore’s courageous decision to use his platform for social change has resonated deeply with audiences worldwide. It serves as a powerful reminder of the responsibility every artist bears to leverage their influence for the greater good. While other artists engage in trivial feuds, Macklemore’s actions highlight the transformative potential of artistry.

In his song, Macklemore declares, “I want a ceasefire, fuck a response from Drake.” Furthermore, he addresses the industry’s silence with the lyrics, “Yet the music industry’s quiet complicit in their platform of silence.”

With the release of this song, Macklemore announced that all proceeds from “HIND’S HALL” streams would be donated towards supporting Palestinian refugees through UNRWA (The United Nations Relief and Works Agency).

With over 17 million streams and growing, “HIND’S HALL” continues to garner attention and support. We invite you to listen on Spotify and join us in recognizing the power of music to inspire meaningful change.
