In this article, we will share 6 Malaysian artists that you need to listen to. These 6 artists have been in our radar for months now, and we want to share them with you all in hopes that you will find yourself supporting and loving them as much as we do! Each artist has a unique sound and genre, so hopefully at least one song will stand out for you!

Gaston Pong is a singer-songwriter that begun his career in 2019 as part of the Mandopop duo PongPong. He debuted with a Chinese solo track “Let’s Just Fall In Love” in June 2021. On August 12, 2022, he released the single “Whatcha Name?” and he also had a #WhatchaNameDance challenge trending on TikTok. This challenged garnered over 5 million views.
On February 14th, 2023, Gaston released his first English single “Birthday Cake”. Followed by that, he released the single “i luv u, just kidding” – which is our favourite song by him so far.
Gaston hasn’t released any new music since April, but hopefully we can hear some new music soon.

yedira is an R&B/Contemporary R&B singer and songwriter. He made his debut on September 2nd, 2022 with the single “my only” which is in collaboration with the artist yuji. This is yedira’s most popular song with over 4.3 million streams on Spotify. Followed by that, he released the single “lovey dovey” with Quiet.
He started off the 2023 year with the release of “thinkin’” on January 15th. This song was another collaboration with yuji. On June 15th, yedira released the single “take it slow” which garnered over 1 million streams on Spotify. Followed by that, in August he was featured on MFMF.’s EP crying in the shower for the single “tick tock”.
His latest release is from September 17th for the single “off without me” which was a collaboration with Aseekmars.

Joogi is an R&B singer and songwriter who debuted on April 3rd, 2020 with the single “They Ain’t Me”. Followed by that, he collaborated with Kidd Kweezy for the single “Waited” which came out in June 2020. He ended the year off with the release of “Hero” in September. This song was in collaboration with Apriltwentyfifth and Ariel Samuel. Additionally, this song is his most popular song with almost 10K streams on Spotify.
In 2021, Joogi released three singles; “Malibu” with Reckless Escapades, “Cool Girl” and “Tell Me Things” with Brendonse7an. In 2022, Joogi took a hiatus from music and returned on March 31st, 2023 with the single “All Night” which was in collaboration with Murfy Kit. His latest release is “TIMELINE” with YELLOO and we love this song so much.
Joogi also has a song coming out on November 10th called “ZERO HESITATIONS” and it’s featuring Korean-American artist taekmin. Pre-save it here.

FUGŌ is an alternative indie pop/rock band consisting of Hakim Kamal (lead singer and guitarist), Apap (lead guitarist) and Ami (bassist). The band formed in October 2019 and debuted on February 3rd, 2020 with the single “Waiting”. Followed by that, they released “Julia” on November 30th.
On March 31st, 2021, they released the single “Moon & The Sun” which was a pre-release track for their debut EP FUGŌ. This is in collaboration with Bil Musa and is also their second most popular song with over 400K streams.
Their last single is “As Long As We Stay” with Heidi
from March 18th, 2022. Unfortunately, they have not released a single yet in 2023, but hopefully we can get some more music in 2024.

SHN [pronounced as SHEN] is a pop singer and songwriter based in Malaysia. She debuted on November 11th, 2018 with the single “I Won’t Go”. In June 2019, she released her debut album SHN which consisted of 11 tracks. She ended 2019 with the release of “The Idea Of Us” which was in collaboration with RESORT. This song is her most popular song with over 2.7 million streams on Spotify.
She released one single in November 2020 titled “so cool” and quite a few singles throughout 2021. She took a hiatus in 2022 and came back this year on January 13th with the single “27 in a 7-Eleven” which garnered over 370K streams on Spotify.
On June 4th, she released the single “it’s not fair, babe!” which was a pre-release track for her latest EP shotgun which came out on August 18th.

Asher Alexander is an R&B/Pop and Trap singer-songwriter from Penang, Malaysia. He debuted on March 11th, 2022 with the single “Haunt Me”. Followed by that single, he released “Dreams” in June and “Guilty // Bittertaste” in September. All three of these songs were pre-release tracks for his debut Crimson which released on April 28th, 2023. This album is his most recent release and “Haunt Me” is his most popular song with almost 10K streams on Spotify.
