Welcome back to another post in our “Behind The Beat Spotlight” series. In honour of Women’s History Month, we wanted to spotlight a female artist we adore. This blog will be about Toronto based R&B singer-songwriter KIKIYO. KIKIYO is not only a solo singer, but she is a part of the Toronto based group Vibewitu. We actually met KIKIYO in April 2023 before she released any music and just talking to her about her music made us so excited for her first release. She debuted on November 24th, 2023 with the single “Hit Different” which has almost 70K streams on Spotify.

We decided to feature KIKIYO this month because we truly admire her as a singer, songwriter and as a guitarist. As well, we had the opportunity to catch her first live performance ever at Eunice Yeung’s private release party for her song “Jasmine”. KIKIYO was such an incredible performer and her voice is just as beautiful in person as it is in her Spotify recordings. Additionally, we wanted to feature KIKIYO because she released her second single “breathe” yesterday on March 22nd. Listen to it here.
