NCT 127 DROPS 3 NEW SONGS ON AY-YO - THE 4TH ALBUM REPACKAGE | COMEBACK CORNER

Back in September 2022, SM Entertainment’s 9 member K Pop group NCT 127 released their 4th Album 2 Baddies which consists of 12 songs. After 4 months, they have released their repackage album which includes the original 12 songs plus 3 additional songs; “Ay-Yo”, “DJ”, and “Skyscraper”.
NCTzens (NCT’s fandom name) all over the world have been enjoying the three new songs, and even can’t decide their favourite one. All three songs on this repackage are already charting in the MelOn Top 100. The album released at 6 PM KST, which was 4 AM EST and since then, the music video for “Ay-Yo” already sits at 1.8 million views.
In this article, we will break down and review the three new songs on AY-YO – The 4th Album Repackage, so let’s get started.
“Ay-Yo” is the title track for this repackage and it’s a hip-hop dance song produced by 3x Grammy winner producer Dem Jointz and the Brazilian producer duo TropKillaz. This song follows NCT’s typical style of upbeat, noise music. However, my favourite part of the song is the half-time tempo and slowed down bridge with Doyoung and Jungwoo’s melodious vocals, followed by verse 2 with Mark, Johnny and Taeyong’s fiery rap. Overall, this song is such a fun and catchy song.

“DJ” is NCT’s take on retro-funk infused with hip-hop. The song is produced by Sweden producer and songwriter, Simon Petrén. “DJ” includes a funky uptempo beat, generally found in ‘70s funk. There is also a jazzy piano throughout the song layered in with a deep bass. Despite the retro style, it still has NCT’s touch to it with their siren synth which is often found in their more upbeat songs. Prior to the release of this repackage, NCT 127 released a track video for “DJ” on January 26. The overall style of this music video was colourful and stuck to the retro aesthetic.

“Skyscraper” is another hip hop style song produced by Dem Jointz. As well, the NCT 127 members Taeyong and Mark participated in the rap making of this song. In a song production breakdown by SM, they describe “Skyscraper” as a song that “captures the members’ challenging ambitions to endlessly overcome their limits and rise higher, like a skyscraper”(Source: SM Town). Out of the three new songs, this one is my personal favourite from the meaning of the song to the production.

I highly recommend listening to all 15 songs on the album, since each song is so different and unique. My favourites from the original album are; “2 Baddies”, “Time Lapse”, “Crash Landing” and “Vitamin”.
