P1HARMONY RELEASES 7TH MINI ALBUM ”SAD SONG” | COMEBACK CORNER

On September 20th, 2024, South Korean pop boy group, P1Harmony released their seventh mini album titled SAD SONG. In just over two weeks, the album has surpassed over 3 million streams and debuted at number 16 on this week’s Billboard 200, earning their highest-charting yet.
P1Harmony (피원하모니), also known as P1H, is a South Korean boy group under the label FNC Entertainment. The group consists of six members; Keeho, Theo, Jiung, Intak, Soul and Jongseob. The group made their official debut on October 28th, 2020, with their debut first mini albumDISHARMONY : STAND OUT. P1Harmony is an amalgamation of “plus”, “one,” and ‘harmony.” After four years since their debut, P1Harmony has released seven mini albums and a debut full length album 때깔 (Killin‘ It) which came out earlier this year on February 5th. Their debut album marked their first #1 album in Korean music show. As well, it debuted at number 1 on Billboard World Albums chart, #2 on Billboard Top Album Sales chart and #10 Spotify Debut albums chart.
SAD SONG is a 7-track project that was co-written, co-produced and performed by all members in P1Harmony. Sonically, the mini album has Kpop influences with influences by genres such as; American rap, pop, and Latin Music. All 7 tracks on this project tackle themes of overcoming loneliness through positivity. (Source: FRAZES CREATIVE).
“SAD SONG” is an upbeat Hip-Hop Latin inspired title track with an accompanying music video, which has amassed over 12 million views since its release. The mini album also includes an English version of this song. This song, like the title implies is centred around feeling stuck and sad.
“It’s Alright” is another upbeat song with a catchy piano riff and fun percussion. The distinctive voices of each member adds to the suave feel of this song. This song portrays a message of self-determination and is a song that is meant for P1eces (P1Harmony’s fanbase) to relate to.
“Last Call” is a very youthful and refreshing song. It has some electronic and rock sounds to it with the electric guitar. The chorus is very catchy and each member’s vocal styles are really shown throughout this song. The song shows “the reward for pushing through, celebrating the heat of the moment, and making the final moments of the party even more electrifying.” (Source: FRAZES CREATIVE). This is one of our favourite songs on the EP because it has a nostalgic feel to it as it draws inspiration from music in the 2010s.
“Welcome To” is a song that mixes traditional rock (using the electric guitar) with electronic percussive themes – the song has a trap beat. The blend of the members singing and rapping really makes the song come together. This song conveys a message of hope and encourages listeners to trust each other. The member Intak says “It’s a new day hey” which also symbolizes beginning a new chapter with each day passing, despite the hardships they face.
“All You” is on the slower R&B pop side, but still upbeat with the electric synth and sounds. It also has a nostalgic feel to it due to it’s 90s pop vibe. The song is a sweet song and basically a confession and hope for this connection to last forever.
“WASP” is P1Harmony’s first “unit” track featuring members Intak and Jongseob. It’s an experimental Hip-Hop track with a gritty bass sound. The song is “an instant callback to the 2016/2017 United States rap, this expands the musical attributes of their discography. The dark, intense vibe, with sharp raps and lyrics, evokes a wasp—symbolizing a rebel striving for success in the music industry.” (Source: FRAZES CREATIVE).
“SAD SONG” is the English version of the title track “SAD SONG”. It hits just the same as the Korean version.
Overall, we love SAD SONG. It’s definitely a no-skip mini album and we love the powerful, uplifting feel to it. We have enjoyed P1Harmony’s music since their debut and we are so excited to continue following and supporting their journey.
