POP ARTISTS INFLUENCED BY K-POP
BY BRENESSA ROACH | AUGUST 26 2023
K-Pop is pop music that is sung in Korean, but over the last few years, K-Pop has developed it’s own sound and style that is different from Western pop. In our opinion, typical K-Pop songs have a more bright and bubbly vibe and production to it compared to regular pop songs. The four artists we featured in this article are heavily inspired by K-Pop or are even working closely in the Korean music industry. Their music is not sung in Korean and they are not Korean, but their music is different from a regular pop song and falls under that bubbly and bright K-pop sound.
So, let’s get started…
Jenny Lyric is an LA based singer and songwriter who blends R&B and K-Pop and is currently signed to the Korean label Localhigh Records. She was part of the K-Pop group Coco Avenue which was labeled as “the first black K-Pop group.” Coco Avenue disbanded in 2017 and she went to Korea and started working with Shin Insoo on the song “INS-REPLAY, Vol 2: CLOSER”. This song was her debut song on June 22nd, 2018 and it was distributed through Warner Korea and 1theK (Source: Spotify artist bio).
On May 28th, 2021, she released her second single “View” which was a collaboration with Ajk. Followed by the release of “View”, she released “Eottae (Acoustic Version)” in September, “Stop Talking” with Talent Bender and “HOMIES” in December. In 2022, she only released one single on July 14th titled “Love On The Dance Floor”.
