PRYVT MELTS FANS HEARTS IN TORONTO

On June 19th, 2024, rising Korean-indie band PRYVT (pronounced “private”) performed in Toronto at Adelaide Hall. This was their third stop on their first North American tour The &Scene Tour. PRYVT is a duo consisting of Korean-Canadian singer hanuel (who also plays guitar) and Indonesian artist HNATA (who is also the bassist and producer). The group debuted on August 4th, 2023 with the single “tell me, will we survive?”. Gaining lots of attention on TikTok and across social media for their heartfelt love songs and hanuel’s sweet voice, their latest single “if it’s not you” has garnered over 7.7 million streams on Spotify since its release in February.
The show started at 7:45 PM with a DJ set from YJ who got the crowd going with his smooth transitions between Korean and English songs. YJ continued to DJ while Korean-Canadian singer shae, who is based in Toronto and originally from Edmonton started her opening performance. She came out on stage looking ethereal and singing some of her released songs such as; “Half of Me” and “harder than it needs to be”. She also did a cover of NIKI’s song “Every Summertime” from the movie Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings and teased some new songs.

Next, Filipino-Canadian singer WIMY (When I Met You) took the stage and filled the room with his warm vocals and smooth guitar skills. He performed his hit song “pages” – which has over 16 million streams on Spotify. He also performed his songs “Hideaway” and even brought out Korean-Canadian singer Kuiper for his part on the song “run away”. Towards the end of his set, WIMY called out shae again to perform their hit song “Anybody” which has over 10 million streams on Spotify since its release in August 2023.

Leading with an aesthetically pleasing video intro (pictured above), PRYVT had the fans waiting with anticipation. hanuel and HNATA walked in stage accompanied by their guitarist Justin Tecson (who is also in the band DACEY) and drummer Isaac Owens (who is also a producer for many artists, PRYVT included). Opening with “mona lisa”, they truly set the vibes for the night. They also sang their other released songs “blue salvia” – a crowd favourite, “I can’t go home, anymore” – which is our personal favourite song/performance and their debut song “tell me, will we survive?”.
Another one of our favourite performances was for their hit song “if it’s not you”. This was such a beautiful moment in the night as the whole crowd sang the chorus back to PRYVT and we all bonded over these heartfelt lyrics. Not only did PRYVT sing their released songs, but they also gave the audience a taste of their upcoming debut album (which has no release date yet) and played a few unreleased songs like; “yours”, “end credits” and “your wedding”. Their encore stage is their only upbeat song and it’s an unreleased collaboration with BIG Naughty – which we are so excited for.
Overall, the night was amazing! With hanuel’s powerful and beautiful vocals and HNATA’s amazing bass playing and sunshine energy, PRYVT has us wanting to see them again and again. If you have a chance to see PRYVT, please do! Their last stop on their tour is on Friday, June 28th in Vancouver, so make sure to get tickets here if you can. Additionally, they are opening for South Korean-Canadian singer slchld’s APOLOGY tour in the West Coast of USA, so get tickets if you can.
