Semmi, an independent Korean-American artist based in Los Angeles, has been on a transformative journey leading up to his highly anticipated debut. After more than a year of preparation, Semmi finally released his debut single, “Armageddon,” on August 16th.

“Armageddon” is a ballad in the pop-punk genre that deals with the tough feelings of falling out of love in a harmful way. Semmi explains, “Armageddon means a choice between Heaven and Hell. After a relationship, you can choose to be either a good or bad person.” He reveals that this song is the result of his reflections over the past three years following a breakup. Semmi shares, “I went down a bad path—hurting the other person with my words and actions and meeting new people out of spite. ‘Armageddon’ is about realizing we’re all human, and it’s okay to make mistakes as long as we learn from them.” Through this song, Semmi wants to connect with those who feel lonely and are struggling with fake relationships, encouraging them to start loving themselves rather than turning to self-destruction.

Creating “Armageddon” was a challenging process for Semmi. He says, “When I first started making music, I struggled with how to express myself. Every line in a song matters. Through this journey, I really learned to be vulnerable with my emotions and be in touch with it because if you’re not in touch with it, it’s not really genuine. ‘Armageddon’ is a track I wanted to make for years, trying to find the right beat and melody to make it truly authentic.”

When asked what colour he thinks best represents “Armageddon,” Semmi describes it as a deep, royal blue. He explains, “I listened to the song over and over again in different settings, and it hit me the hardest at night. I wrote it in winter in Seattle when it was foggy. Because of the setting and how I was feeling, royal blue seems to fit the song.”

“Armageddon” is a powerful song with a meaningful story. Whether you’re feeling happy or sad, it’s a song you can interpret in your own way. With its fast drum beats and sad melodies, it can be both uplifting and melancholic.

Through his debut, Semmi wants to highlight the importance of trusting yourself. He says, “The only person you can truly trust is yourself. Everyone has wings; you just need to learn how to use them. It might sound cheesy, but it’s true.”

Semmi has also been collaborating with Bobo on future releases and is actively working on new songs. He’s excited about what’s next and is committed to continuing his creative journey.
