W.i.S.H: INDIA’S NEWEST POP GIRL GROUP MAKING WAVES IN THE MUSIC SCENE | SOUND SCOPE

Pop has always been a genre at the forefront of the music industry. Groups like the Backstreet Boys, One Direction, Fifth Harmony, and Little Mix have made significant impacts on Western culture.

Around 2012, Korean Pop began to gain popularity outside of Korea, and now in 2024, K-Pop has not only established itself as a genre, but has also taken the global stage by storm. With elaborate choreography, innovative concepts, diverse sounds, and captivating visuals, K-Pop has made a profound impact on audiences worldwide. This influence extends beyond Korea, encompassing diverse acts like JO1 from the J-Pop scene to Filipino Pop sensations like SB19.

Now, it’s India’s turn to make its mark and introduce the world to W.i.S.H.

W.i.S.H, India’s first girl group in 22 years, has been signed to Sony Music India and propelled by the renowned producer Mikey McCleary. With W.i.S.H, Indian-Pop is transcending boundaries and aiming to captivate a diverse global audience.

W.i.S.H, which stands for “World inka Stage Hai” (The World is their Stage) is comprised of four members: Ri (Riya Duggal) – the group’s leader, her sister Sim (Simran Duggal), Suchi (Suchita Shirke) – who are all from Mumbai and Zo (Zoe Siddharth) who is from Chennai. Each member infuses the group with their distinct personality and style, setting W.i.S.H apart from other groups. Zo’s love towards K-culture adds another layer of richness to the group’s dynamic.

Debuting on February 29th with the infectious single “Lazeez” (“delicious” or “tasty” in English), W.i.S.H showcases a fusion of Indian-Pop, Latin rhythms, and afro-beats. The track, written in both English and Hindi, has amassed over 525K streams on Spotify alone, with its vibrant music video garnering over 6.8 million views. Dressed in traditional Indian attire, the group delivers a captivating performance, blending fierce energy with graceful and powerful movements.

Their latest release, “Galti,” dropped on April 4th, featuring a collaboration with MxRZI – a rapper and singer from Mumbai.

Since their debut, W.i.S.H has accrued a dedicated following, with 120K monthly listeners on Spotify. We are eagerly participating in their journey, anticipating their growth and eagerly awaiting the ascent of this remarkable and talented girl group as they conquer the global stage.
