INTRODUCING WEST OF EDEN [EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW]

Meet WEST OF EDEN, an Independent pop/alternative pop Seattle-based boy band. They made their debut on December 15th, 2023 with the single “butterfly” and followed up with “WON’T LET YOU GO” on January 19th, 2024.

Today, WEST OF EDEN unveiled their third single, “CONTACT”. Behind The Beat had the opportunity to sit down with WEST OF EDEN to discuss their band, the meaning behind their new song and their plans for the rest of 2024.

INTRODUCTION

Who is WEST OF EDEN?

WEST OF EDEN: WEST OF EDEN is a Seattle-based boy band consisting of the artists jun.e, slone, riensu, keanu., wil, and yoku as well as in-house music producers Cat Naps, jahvi, rayne, videographers byul and Jamling Sherpa, and graphic designers NRK and artbylastnight. We are basically just a group of friends who found each other through the desire to find people who make the same kind of music. Seattle isn’t really known for the “indie-pop, alt-pop” scene and more for indie rock so it was truly a miracle that we all met in the winter of 2022.

Why did you decide to form?

WEST OF EDEN: We started as “ways of expression” back then with a whole different roster but over time we’ve condensed into the current members and rebranded to “WEST OF EDEN” keeping the WOE acronym but with a whole different meaning. Although our name is a biblical reference it actually came from us just mashing words together until it sounded cool. Since we are based in Seattle, which is in the West side of the US, and Eden is a beautiful garden of paradise that’s what we settled with. We wanna start a scene for our kind of music in Seattle.

NEW SINGLE “CONTACT” BREAKDOWN

Congratulations on the release of your new single "CONTACT”! What is this song about?

WEST OF EDEN: “CONTACT” is an alt-pop song about getting out of a toxic relationship. It’s basically a big F U song towards your ex-lover.

What was the writing and production process like?

WEST OF EDEN: We started this song last year in an Airbnb. We got this track from our producer jahvi and slone got back from a Pokemon rave at 12am and first thing he did was freestyle a majority of the song. Afterwards we dissected his freestyle got everyone in the house to hop and it became our first cohesive song with the group. We’re excited that this will be the first single with a majority of the members on the track.

FUTURE GOALS

What are your goals for the upcoming year?

WEST OF EDEN: We are going to drop a live performance video for this song so look out for that on the EXPRESSIONS* Youtube channel. Also, we are working hard to try to drop a song every other week so, follow us on our socials to keep up with what we are doing! We might even have a couple shows soon in the Seattle area.
