YVES DEBUTS WITH EP “LOOP” | COMEBACK CORNER

Today, South Korean soloist and producer Yves (이브) released her debut EP *LOOP.* Yves is signed under PAIX PER MIL and NiNE Music and is also a member of the Korean girl group LOONA (who are currently inactive).On May 18th, Yves released the single “Breath” which is an original television soundtrack for the Korean Drama Missing Crown Prince.
Her official debut as a soloist is with her debut EP LOOP which includes four singles; “DIORAMA”, “LOOP” featuring Lil Cherry, “Afterglow” and “Goldfish”.
“DIORAMA” is an upbeat, hip-hop style song. It has a very nostalgic sound to it and reminds us a lot of songs from the early 2000s. The way the beat builds is so pleasing to the ear as it starts with that cell phone siren type beeping and then the kicks come in. Yves sings in both English and Korean in this song and we definitely see this being a hit in both Korea and oversees.
“LOOP” is another upbeat song, but more in the dance pop genre. It features a lot of elements of techno and house synths and beats. It’s such a fun and catchy song that instantly makes you want to dance. We also really love that Lil Cherry is featured on it, as her rap adds so much colour to this song. This song is the title track and has an accompanying music video. The music video is set in dark lighting with an edgy/streetstyle aesthetic. Yves is shown in a beautiful, blue dress and the choreography is very bouncy. This is definitely a strong title track song.
“Afterglow” is a song that falls under the indie-rock category as the production includes electric guitar and a four on the floor drum kit. We absolutely love this genre so, this was definitely our favourite song on the EP. Yves has such a warm voice and it fits with this calming indie-rock genre. Also love the lyrics and the title of the song.

Overall, we love the LOOP EP so much and it’s definitely a no-skip one. We hadn’t really known who Yves was prior to this EP, but we definitely are fans now. This EP just shows how diverse she is with her music and how she can pull off any genre.
